Welcome to Scout Troop 28

Proudly Scouting Since 1950

For over sixty years, Troop 28 has been building young men of excellent character through Scouting. We stress leadership, personal responsibility, fun, friendship and outdoor adventures.

Youth who have earned the Arrow of Light rank and are at least 10 years old, or have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10, or who are 11, but not yet 18 years old are welcome to join Troop 28.

For grades K - 5, contact Burlingame or Hillsborough CUB SCOUT Packs. 1) https://www.troopwebhostcs.org/Pack128Burlingame/Index.htm  2) https://www.facebook.com/hillsboroughcubs Pack 58

We are grateful to be sponsored by Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 415 El Camino Real, Burlingame. Our troop meetings are generally held the first and third Monday of each month, from 7 - 8:15 pm.  Click on Contact Us if you're interested in learning more about Troop 28 or would like to attend one of our meetings.

Our troop is Scout-led, and our adult staff is highly trained. Our emphasis is on quality, not quantity, and we achieve good results by having the parents of our Scouts reinforce the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law at home.  Our parent group has high participation in providing the scaffolding for the scouts to build the program on.

Our troop is engaged in camping, hiking, backpacking, river rafting, skiing and service projects. We practice the patrol method, and emphasize creating experiences that are both meaningful and memorable.  Our troop culture practices what we call the straight A’s: attendance, appearance, activity, advancement, accountability, and awards.

Parents Meeting - All Parents Welcome

Posted on Sep 11 2020 - 6:01pm

Our first parent meeting of the new scout year will be Monday 9/14 at 8pm. We will be welcoming our new families. Parents will learn about upcoming activities, areas we need your help, and opportunities to get your questions answered.

A fundamental principle of Scouting is that troops be Boy Led. In order for the Scouting program to be successful, however, parents NEED to be involved. It doesn’t matter whether your job is big or small, help is needed from every adult. There are many different roles to fill and ways to contribute. We need your help, supporting an activity, teaching a skill and helping with advancement.

The first half of the meeting will include information for all parents. We ask that parents of our newest scouts stay a bit longer for "new parent orientation".

Postponed: Family Picnic

Posted on Aug 21 2020 - 8:55am
The Troop has decided to postpone this event due to current weather and county regulations. Please join us for the upcoming virtual committee meeting, troop meeting, and parents meeting.
*** Due to the Covid 19 County restrictions, we can no longer have our 'traditional' welcome back picnic at the Washington Park Bocce courts*** We are exploring the option for a socially distant activity, such as Frisbee golf by patrols. We will have more details coming your way.
From Jack Geraghty: Hello Troop 28...We would like families who plan on attending to sign up on the troop website so we have a good idea for how many kids/families will be there.  I hope everyone plans on attending! I hope to see everyone soon.

Family Camp - CANCELLED

Posted on Aug 19 2020 - 12:15pm
Sep 11 - 13 China Camp State Park in San Rafael. Sign up on the troop website

We have reserved a group campsite at the beautiful China Camp State Park in San Rafael (Marin County).  This is a great opportunity for us to get outside and do some camping with the Scouts, parents, and siblings!  There is a historical fishing village and a lot of great trails to explore in the area.  If you have an off-road bicycle (and helmet), it would be recommended you bring it along. China Camp State Park is about a 1 hour drive from Burlingame.  It is going to be a fun time!

Information on China Camp State Park is at: https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=466 .

In light of COVID-19, we will have to be flexible with our planning and preparation which will require a few changes from our normal camping routine.  If we get the permission to camp as a group based on the current heath conditions, we will have to be prepared to take the appropriate heath precautions.  Families from the same household will camp in the same tents and we are asking that Scouts not share tents unless they are in the the same household.

The equipment checkout is planned for Wednesday, September 9 at 7:00pm at St. Paul's Church
