Welcome to Scout Troop 28

Proudly Scouting Since 1950

For over sixty years, Troop 28 has been building young men of excellent character through Scouting. We stress leadership, personal responsibility, fun, friendship and outdoor adventures.

Youth who have earned the Arrow of Light rank and are at least 10 years old, or have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10, or who are 11, but not yet 18 years old are welcome to join Troop 28.

For grades K - 5, contact Burlingame or Hillsborough CUB SCOUT Packs. 1) https://www.troopwebhostcs.org/Pack128Burlingame/Index.htm  2) https://www.facebook.com/hillsboroughcubs Pack 58

We are grateful to be sponsored by Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 415 El Camino Real, Burlingame. Our troop meetings are generally held the first and third Monday of each month, from 7 - 8:15 pm.  Click on Contact Us if you're interested in learning more about Troop 28 or would like to attend one of our meetings.

Our troop is Scout-led, and our adult staff is highly trained. Our emphasis is on quality, not quantity, and we achieve good results by having the parents of our Scouts reinforce the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law at home.  Our parent group has high participation in providing the scaffolding for the scouts to build the program on.

Our troop is engaged in camping, hiking, backpacking, river rafting, skiing and service projects. We practice the patrol method, and emphasize creating experiences that are both meaningful and memorable.  Our troop culture practices what we call the straight A’s: attendance, appearance, activity, advancement, accountability, and awards.

Congratulations to our newly awarded Eagle Scouts

Posted on Jul 17 2020 - 7:47pm

Troop 28 is thrilled to announce our newly awarded Eagle Scouts: Justin T., Nikhil V., TJ D.

The Eagle Scout award is a performance based achievement, the standards for which have been well maintained over the years. Only 4% of all Boy Scouts achieve this rank. Requirements must be fulfilled in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. The candidates are required to advance through the ranks - Scout, Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, 1st Class, Star, Life and Eagle. To advance, specific tests, organized by requirements and merit badges must be passed.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Eagle Project: Help Needed

Posted on Jul 10 2020 - 10:02am
From: Nikhil Mummaneni - I am reaching out to involve scouts in my tutoring project.

I started JTS tutoring with a friend and have grown it to include around 60 high school student tutors from my school. We have tutees from Crystal Springs middle school, Hillsborough elementary schools, and Family Connections, the beneficiary of my Eagle Project.

Here is our website: https://jtstutoring.epizy.com/. We specialize in teaching from the curricula we developed by mixing existing resources (khan academy, ck-12, etc.). The curriculum for each subject aims to give middle school students a more solid foundation for their high-school classes during the summer. We also have more basic curricula tailored towards elementary schoolers. School year tutoring is mostly for classwork/homework help, though we can always continue teaching a curriculum if the tutee would like us too. We ask for donations on the behalf of Family Connections on our website in exchange for the free service we provide.

Parents of scouts: interested in getting tutoring for your K-8 children?
High School age scouts: are you interested in becoming a tutor?

The Congressional Award: An impressive honor Scouts can earn just by being Scouts

Posted on Jul 10 2020 - 9:56am

"In Congress, it’s the rare subject about which there’s unanimous agreement. It’s the Congressional Award, the highest recognition Congress bestows on young people. To qualify, a young person must meet certain goals in four key areas: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Yes, many of the activities young people enjoy in Scouting fit nicely into those four categories..... "

Annual Planning - meeting notes

Posted on Jun 20 2020 - 9:46pm

SPL Edwin M. and his PLC met on Saturday to begin planning the new Scout year starting in August 2020. They are finalizing the list of activities. The focus is on outdoor events, including camping, white water rafting, hiking, biking, climbing and back packing. During the rainy months, activities will include an escape room adventure, indoor archery, bowling, service projects, and an emphasis on completing requirements for advancement. Each PLC member will be in charge of planning at least two events, and we will need adult volunteers to assist with each activity.

We will be posting events on the troop calendar as they are confirmed. Every activity will be scout lead, with a YPT adult for back up and assistance. Watch for the adult sign up sheet so you can volunteer to work with the scouts to plan your favorite activity.
