"In Congress, it’s the rare subject about which there’s unanimous agreement. It’s the Congressional Award, the highest recognition Congress bestows on young people. To qualify, a young person must meet certain goals in four key areas: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Yes, many of the activities young people enjoy in Scouting fit nicely into those four categories..... "

The Troop Meeting scheduled for tonight at the Burlingame Recreation Center is CANCELLED.
I apologize for the short notice, but the Troop was just notified by the facility manager of the Burlingame Recreation Center that the building is closed.
While I would normally just hold a meeting in a parking lot using flashlights, headlamps, and lanterns, the current extreme weather, and dangerous driving conditions, combined with “Ski Week,” would make the meeting exceptionally unproductive.
In lieu of holding a meeting, the Scouts should spend the hour reading (and discussing with an adult) the following few pages about “Leadership,” in their Boy Scout Handbooks:
Older Handbook (Ed. 2009 – Eagle on cover – see attachment), “Leadership,” pages 46-65. Newer Handbook (Ed. 2016 – Scout canoe on cover – see attachment) “Character & Leadership,” pages 32-47.
The next Troop Meeting will be as regularly scheduled as indicated on the Troop Website (http://t28burlingame.org/), for:
Date: March 6, 2017 Time: 7:00 p.m. Place: St. Paul's Episcopal Church 415 El Camino Real, Burlingame, CA 94010
Troop 28 will be holding a virtual Court of Honor (COH) on Monday, December 14 at 7pm followed by a fun, holiday themed activity presented by the Patrol Leader Council (PLC). The Court of Honor is a formal recognition of Scouts who have moved up in rank, except Eagle Scout, and those who have earned Merit Badges since the previous Court of Honor. Scouts should wear their Class A uniform to the Court of Honor.
Parents will have their own celebration after the Court of Honor, so stick around!
Only 6% of all Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle. You can do it, but it takes perseverance, determination, and most of all, a good sense of TIME MANAGEMENT.
Life rank Scouts, the clock is ticking! We will be hosting a "Trail to Eagle" seminar for Life Scouts and potential Life Scouts. Parents, make sure that your Scout is on track and learn what it takes to help him navigate through the process. Your son's success is dependent on your support, but it is ultimately up to your Scout to make past the finish line.
Topics covered at this meeting include:
§ Overview of Eagle Rank Requirements
§ Working with your Eagle Coach/Advisor
§ What does Scout Spirit Really Mean?
§ The best time to become an Eagle Scout
§ Eagle Projects Demystified
§ There's a lot of Paperwork!
§ How You Can Fail a Board of Review
Scouts and Parents, you may be deeply involved in the Eagle process right now, so you might think that this presentation is not for you. Even so, there are still things to do, like understandings what an Eagle binder looks like, preparing for Eagle Board of Review, how to plan an Eagle Court of Honor. So, register on the troop website so I know how many handouts to make! We’ll get you on track!
If you are not able to make it please respond on the website so we can setup a another session for you to attend.
Here is an opportunity for boys who have not yet acheived First Class to complete many of the requirements for the ranks of Scout through First Class!
Knots-cooking-fire starting-map and compass- plant and animal identification-first aid-food safety-knife and axe safety-water safety-swim requirements- and much more!
On line registration is required: http://www.pacsky.org/Event.aspx?id=2774 PLUS register on the T28 website.
