Welcome to 2021! I still miss seeing you all in person. I hope you and your families are healthy and safe.
Our next troop meeting is January 18th at 7pm. The next committee meeting is January 25th at 7pm. Zoom links are on the calendar.
Until San Mateo County is able to exit the Purple Tier, we will not be able to hold in-person troop or patrol meetings. Until then, there are many opportunities for advancement:
Trail to First Class - ongoing meetings focused on the greatest needs
Merit Badges - Camping, Cooking, Family Life, Personal Management, Personal Fitness
Service Projects - Many options for individual and small group projects
Trail to Eagle - We’ll have another Life to Eagle class in late January
The PLC is preparing a youth led Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST), and details will be discussed at the Troop meeting on Monday, January 18. This will be a bit different from previous offerings of ILST as there is an updated curriculum that allows the first two parts to be taken at home, with the in-person part to be scheduled when San Mateo County exits the purple tier. We are excited to provide this training to all scouts in the Troop.
To ensure the troop functions at its highest possible level, we are asking that each family volunteers at least one adult to register and participate as a committee member, merit badge counselor, or Assistant Scoutmaster. We especially need Merit Badge Counselors. The merit badge counselor is a key player in the Scouts BSA advancement program. As a merit badge counselor, your mission is to join fun with learning. You are both a teacher and mentor as the Scout works on a merit badge and learns by doing. Your involvement could inspire a Scout to develop a lifelong hobby, pursue a particular career, or become an independent, self-supporting adult. We will be reviewing the steps on how to sign up and conduct a virtual class at our next Parents Meeting February 1st 7pm.
The PLC is actively scheduling future outings, both virtual and in person for Spring/Summer 2021:
Troop Events:
Small events by Patrols (when allowed)
Trail to First Class meetings (online for now; in person when allowed)
Spring/Summer 2021 camping reservations
Summer Activities
Please continue preparing for Philmont Scout Reservation.
We have reserved a week at Camp Royaneh.
We are considering a 2nd week of summer camp at Boulder Creek Scout Reservation.
If you are interested in attending National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) in June in Boulder Creek, please reach out to me.
We know that three quarters of Scouting is Outing. We are going to do everything we can now to get ready for when we can be together again. There are lots of skills to develop and planning to be done, so we need you!
Our troop would like to help the families of Paradise Troop 316 and Troop 770 who have lost everything to the Camp Fire. We are collecting funds to buy “Zero Degree” down sleeping bags. Every sleeping bag we collect will make a difference in someone's life. One sleeping bag can offer warmth in the coming weeks or keep them comfortable on their next camping trip. Let's lend a helping hand!!
Two ways to donate:
1). $100 donation for each down sleeping bag. You can donate more than one. Follow Mike Hee’s directions below to use the troop website.
2). Pledge a similar amount to the Paradise Troop 770/316 “Go Fund Me” page which will be used only to purchase destroyed troop camping equipment.
Scout are saying they don't know what's going on. In fact, we are getting feedback from both scouts and parents that they are not receiving our emails and EBlasts. We have a way that you can help us fix that!
Please review the contact information -- especially EMAIL addresses -- for each individual in your family and make sure that we have separate, individual email addresses for each person. Instructions are in the attached PowerPoint.
As always, let me know if you have any questions. Your Troop Secretary.
